BREAKING NEWS: CHICAGO TRIBUNE

Several people rescued from 2-alarm fire on North Side

Firefighters rescued more than 20 people this morning after a 2-alarm fire broke out in an apartment building in Chicago's Rogers Park neighborhood.

At about 1:04 a.m., firefighters were called to the scene in the 6900 block of North Ashland Avenue, said Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford. When they arrived, people were standing at windows yelling for help, Langford said.

Seven ground ladders and three main ladders were immediately set up and several people were taken out of the burning building through windows, Langford said. Other residents also were rescued throughout the building, he said. The remainder of the residents were able to get out on their own, Langford said.

The fire was contained to the second and third floor of the 4-story apartment building, Langford said. Three people were injured in the fire, he said. Two victims were taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston and one person was taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital. Langford said all appeared to be in good condition.

More than 30 people, who lived at the building have been displaced, he said.

GARAGE FIRE NOH-UPDATE-THE DAY AFTER....

(click photos to enlarge)

As you can see, the garage is empty except for the spring remains of a burned mattress. There is no power or any utility in the garages that could have caused the fire. IMO, this is the work of either 'squatters' using the garage as a place to....? or arsonists/vandals.  The Fire Department said the fire started on/in the mattress.  If the garage had been properly secured this never would have happened. IMO, the property owner/bank should be 'cited' for not having secured the property.

BREAKING NEWS-GARAGE FIRE NOH

(click photos to enlarge)

The garage at the rear of 7714 N. Marshfield caught (was set?) on fire tonight at about 10:00 p.m.. The property is apparently vacant  having been foreclosed on several years ago.  A number of us in the neighborhood have been trying to get the City and/or the Alderman to take action and get the garage secured to no avail.  It's been wide open for months and this was bound to happen.  We should be thankful that the damage was confined to the one stall.  Our thanks  to the men and women of our Fire Department for a job well done!

FOLLOWUP TO: BREAKING NEWS NOH

The person located at the Loyola Red Line station was, in fact, the injured party in this matter. He was tranported to St. Francis Hospital for medical treatment. No other information is available.

Thanks to the Firefighters from the Rogers Park Station for a great job of clean up, not only at the Playlot but the sidewalk all the way down to the Howard Street Red Line Station!
