A SAD STATE OF AFFAIRS.......

These photos were taken today, July 16th at 2:30 PM on the 7600 block of N. Paulina Street.  The residents and tax payers of the neighborhood would like to know why these conditions are allowed to exist, obviously ignored and of no apparent concern to whoever is responsible (Streets & Sanitation, 49th Ward Service office, The Rogers Park Business Alliance SSA and /or the property owners) to cut and maintain the 'sucker' growth at the base of the trees as well as the weeds growing in the city parkways?  It's quite a sight isn't it.

Allowing these conditions to to exist is a total disrespect and disregard to our neighborhood and it's residents and has a devastating and negative effect on our over all quality of life!

The election is over. Joe has no need to work hard for another four years.

While I agree it is sad maybe its time that residents take responsibility and do something on their own? And a great way to start would be to stop littering and living like pigs beer cans bottles candy wrappers chip bags all over if we wait for others to solve our problems it aint gonna happen

I agree it looks bad, but what is wrong with the businesses that have this mess out front? I take care of weeding the parkway in front of my house -- why can't they do the same? Not alot of work to accomplish that, and no need for taxpayer dollars to be used.

While I agree that the property/business owners should be maintaining the area in front of their property, the fact is taxpayer $$ ARE being used to pay the salaries of those who are ultimately responsible for maintaining the public way, i.e., the Alderman, Streets & Sanitation, the Rogers Park Business Alliance and their SSA's! Why shouldn't the taxpayers expect that they perform their responsibility. With the 'new sheriff' in town, (Mayor Emanuel), there is hope that the 'slackers' (in the case of the Alderman, that of course requires voting him out of office) will perform or be fired!

Belated 'thanks' to whoever
(obviously in reaction to 'our' post) cut the weeds and sucker growth along the 7600 block of Paulina. Hopefully, this will be an ongoing, pro-active effort/action to maintain the street!

Although I often pick up litter in the courtyard and on breezeway in front of my building b/c the landlord/property manager can't be bothered and my neighbors think nothing of littering, I am humbled to have to admit I hadn't even noticed the lack of care/attention to our streetscape--and I walk down that block almost every day! Thank you for drawing attention to the lack of upkeep. Glad to hear somebody did something about it.

Let's hope 'they' continue the upkeep on a regular, ongoing basis!
