COMMUNITY MEETING TONIGHT

Community Meeting on Proposed Donation of
Old Firehouse to Historical Society

Dear Neighbor,

I am writing to invite you to a COMMUNITY MEETING to review a proposal to transfer ownership of the old firehouse at 1723 W. Greenleaf to the Rogers Park/West Ridge Historical Society. The meeting will be held on Monday, July 13th, 7:00 p.m., at the United Church of Rogers Park, 2nd Floor Gallery, 1545 W. Morse (at Ashland).

Representatives from the Historical Society will discuss their plans to renovate the old firehouse into a museum and offices for the Society. The old firehouse was home to Engine Company 102 since the turn of the last century. The Chicago Fire Department moved Engine Company 102 to its new home at 7340 N. Clark last January and the old firehouse has remained vacant ever since.

Under the proposed agreement, the City of Chicago would transfer ownership of the old firehouse to the Historical Society for one dollar, and the Society would be responsible for rehabilitating the structure into a museum and offices. The property transfer would require City Council approval.

I urge you to attend the meeting to express your views on the proposal. If you are unable to attend the meeting, please feel free to share your views with me by replying to this e-mail or calling my office at 773-338-5796.

Sincerely,
Joe Moore
